'Kireedom' ....

Kireedom is the film that remains as a pain in malayali's heart. A classic effort from sibi malayil- lohithadas team. Later lohi revealed that he got the story of kireedom from a real life incident. 'Kireedom' has the pain, it has the violence, the agony of parents. It was the story of a honest policeman, achuthan nair and his family. Achuthan nair's one and only dream is to make his son sethu as a police inspector. achuthan nair gets a transfer ,and he and his family moves to another place. there lives the coldblooded criminal named keerikkadan jose. one day achuthan nair has to engage in an encounter with jose.when sethumadhavan accidently sees that his father is beaten by jose, he has to interfere. As a result he beats jose so wildly and jose is almost dead.

Now suddenly sethu's image begins to change. Everybody in that village began to watch him as another criminal. His father beats him in the prison. Sethumadhavan begins to lose everything in his life. He has to forget his love, and his ambition to become a police inspector. He has to leave his house also. now jose comes back from the hospital and want to take revenge on sethu. When jose tried to attack his family, sethu has to get ready for the final encounter. And in the climax he kills jose and goes to jail.

It was a film that touched the hearts of everybody. the tragedy of sethumadhavan was painful. Kireedom showed us the tranformation of an innocent guy to a criminal. It dealt with the emotions of his family. The powerful screenplay of Lohithadas and the ignited direction of Sibi malayil gave new dimensions to the film. All the characters were strong in character. Howcan we forget murali, jagathi sreekumar and the villain keerikkadan jose. The strength of kireedom was also the powerful performance of the lead artists. As achuthan nair, thilakan gave one of the greatest performances in his career. Mohan lal was fantastic as sethumadhavan which earned him a special jury award at the national level, but still i think he deserved the best actor award for kireedom.

one of the best scenes was the climax, sethumadhavan is sitting in the market after the murder of jose. achuthan nair comes there and asks sethu to drop his knife. It was an excellently picturised scene. There was only one song in the film, but it was so touching. This film also gave a new career dimension to kochin haneefa also, he was brilliant as hydros.

The film was a big success at the box office. years later, sibi and lohi plans to make a sequel to kireedom. It was 'chenkol' , but the film failed at the box office.In an interview given later, thilakan talked against lohithadas. Thilakan was a broken man as his character in chenkol was etched in such a bad way, whatever it may be the viewers can't accept the destruction of sethumadhavan.

eventhough chenkol failed at the box office,it was also a watchable film.

Chenkol was a watchable movie except the climax... I didnt like the climax... But kireedom was one of the best malayalam movies...
