വീട്ടുവേലക്കാരികളെക്കുറിച്ച് നടത്തിയ പരാമര്ശം തമിഴ്നാട്ടില് ആളിക്കത്തിയതിനെത്തുടര്ന്ന് ജയറാം തമിഴ് ജനതയോട് മാപ്പ് ചോദിച്ചു. താന് തമാശയായാണ് പരാമര്ശം നടത്തിയതെന്നും അത് ആരെയും വേദനിപ്പിക്കാനായിരുന്നില്ലെന്നും ജയറാം പറഞ്ഞു. 23 വര്ഷമായി താന് തമിഴ്സിനിമയുടെ ഭാഗമാണെന്നും അതിനാല് തമിഴ് ജനതയെ വേദനിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ഒന്നും തന്റെ ഭാഗത്തുനിന്നുണ്ടാവില്ലെന്നും ജയറാം വിശദീകരിച്ചു. വിഷയം തമിഴിലെ പ്രധാനദിനപത്രമായ `ദിനതന്തി'യില് വന്നതോടെ ചെന്നൈയിലെ ജയറാമിന്റെ വീടിനു മുന്നില് വിവിധ സംഘടനകളുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തില് കുത്തിയിരിപ്പു സമരം നടന്നിരുന്നു. തന്റെ പരാമര്ശം വന്വിവാദമായതിന്റെ പശ്ചാത്തലത്തിലാണ് പരസ്യമായി ക്ഷമപറഞ്ഞ് തടിയൂരാന് ജയറാം തീരുമാനിച്ചത്. കോഴിക്കോട് സത്യന് അന്തിക്കാടിന്റെ പുതിയ ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ സെറ്റിലാണിപ്പോള് ജയറാം.
ഒരു ചാനലില് `ഹാപ്പി ഹസ്ബന്റ്സി'ന്റെ പ്രമോഷന് ഷോയില് ജയറാം നടത്തിയ പരാമര്ശമാണ് തമിഴ്നാട്ടില് വിവാദമുണ്ടാക്കിയത്. വീട്ടിലെ വേലക്കാരികളെപ്പറ്റി ചോദിച്ചപ്പോള് എന്റെ വീട്ടില് കറുത്ത് തടിച്ച തമിഴത്തികളെ മാത്രമേവെക്കാറുള്ളൂ. അതിന്റെ കാരണം പാര്വതിയോട് ചോദിക്കണം എന്നാണ് ജയറാം പറഞ്ഞത്. ഇത് `കുമുദം' വാരികയില് പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചതോടെയാണ് വിവാദം തലപൊക്കിയത്. `ദിനതന്തി'യില്ക്കൂടി വിഷയം വന്നതോടെ ജയറാമിനെതിരെയുള്ള പ്രതിഷേധം തമിഴ്നാട്ടില് ശക്തമായി. തമിഴില്ക്കൂടി അഭിനയിക്കുന്ന താരമായതിനാലും ചെന്നെവാസിയായതിനാലുമാണ് തന്റെ പരാമര്ശത്തില് ക്ഷമചോദിക്കാന് ജയറാം നിര്ബന്ധിതനായത്

ayshoo.. mosham aayipoyi. jayaram angene okke parayaan paadilaaayirunnu.. it shows what his mentality is like. i like his acting and comedy and all that. but while he stays in tamilnadu and shows his disdain for them based on the colour of their skin is just the biggest indication of his hypocrisy and superficiality.
