Director Kamal is well-known for making films with off-beat themes that are within the commercial format. He does not depend on superstars and makes strong femaleoriented films and Perumazhakalam is another must-see film from the Kamal factory of ladies special.
The protagonists played by Meera Jasmine and Kavya Madhavan have excelled in author backed roles along with guest appearance of Dileep, Vineeth and Biju Menon. The camera of P.Sukumar, music by M.Jayachandran and screenplay by T.A.Razzak are the major highlights of the film. Rain plays an important role in the film which makes it a visual treat for the audience.
Ganga (Kavya), a Brahmin girl lives on the banks of Kalpathi River and her husband Raghurama Iyer (Vineeth) works in Dubai. But one day the news of Iyers death reaches Ganga and she is shocked to know that he was killed by Akbar, another Malayalee. Akbars (Dileep) wife is Raziya (Meera) and she is shattered when she knows that her husband is in a jail in UAE waiting for death sentence.
But the rules in the middle-east and Islamic countries is that if Akbar has to be exonerated, Ganga has to pardon him by giving a letter in writing. Raziya comes to Kalpathi to fall on her feet and plead for her husbands life. Gangas relatives drive her away but Raziya does not give up. Finally Ganga agrees to listen to her story and will she take pity on Raziya? Will Akbar be pardoned? All this forms the sentimental core of the story which leads to a gripping climax.
The film belongs to the two girls Meera and Kavya and it is difficult to say who is better! Both the girls have done their best to elevate their characters to the best. Meera has lived in the role of Raziya and Kavya looks one hundred percent convincing as Ganga, the Brahmin girl. The supporting cast of Mamukoya, Dileep, Vineeth and Biju are good. The songs are melodious and are in sync with the story.
Hats off, to Kamal for coming out with path-breaking concept and presentation never seen before on the Indian screen. You need guts to make a film with lady protagonists and that too a serious film with a novel idea.

story line definetly sounds good. But whether a film will be successful or not depends on the way the director presents it on the big screen..a bad piece of direction can spoil a good story..
But kamal has given us many good movies..hope that in this movie also he gives his best..
