Amritham : review

After seeing the film one wonders what prompted a director like Sibi Malayil to make such outdated story into a film that crawls even though it is only two hours! On the whole Amritham is a dud from the word go!
Poor Sibi, may not have realized that the story of Amritham written by Girish Kumar is similar to T.A.Shaheed�s Vesham. Gopinathan Nair (Jayaram) is the son of the soil, a farmer who loves his family consisting of mother Lakshmi (KPAC Lalitha) and younger brother Dinesh (Arun). Gopi is a bachelor as his responsibilities in life were far too many. Dinesh, a college student is in love with a tea shop owner Gangadharan�s (T.G.Ravi) daughter Mridula (Bhavana).

Meanwhile Gopi has a soft corner for a vegetable vendor Hajiyar�s daughter Sainaba (Padmapriya) and Dinesh is against their affair as she is the sister of his arch rival in college Shafiq (Sudhi Joshi). But against all odds Gopi marries Sainaba in a registrar office which creates a rift between the brothers. The enmity between Dinesh and Shafiq worsens due to machinations of certain political parties which lead to a fatal clash that leads to Shafiq�s death.

How Gopinathan intervenes and saves his younger brother forms the rest of the story. Has Sibi Malayil who has made some memorable films like Kiredom, Bharatham and others lost his magic touch? The film is the ultimate endurance test for the audience with a predictable story and slow paced narration. Jayaram has sleep walked in this clich�d role while Dinesh is wooden and the ladies are there for name sake without much to do. The highly hyped music director M.Jayachandran is proving in film after film that he is just a flash in the pan.

Verdict: Avoidable

I watched this movie last december. I agree that this is a remake of a hundred and one movies in malayalam on this same theme! Rolling Eyes

there were some really predictable scenes especially in the begining of the movie. but i think the second half turned out quite unpredictable, and frankly i enjoyed the movie overall.

i thot padmapriya's performace was awesome. she is the charecter that really stood out. Jayaram was as always when he plays such roles! Arun was boring and stiff throughout. nedumudi venu's role was a waste. and even more was bhavana. her role was that of the daughter of the owner of a kaapi kadda. all she had to do was smile, pout, wear some really fashionable clothes and dance Hee Hee

would'nt say it was a great hit, but it was ok. compared to vesham (which i also watched straight after this one) i thot it was really good! the subject matter is the same but the way it was portrayed in amritham was much more bearable than vesham! vesham was really unsahikable! Whew!

Amritham is flop sibimalayil outdated aya director ayo last movie jalotsavam is also a big flop but i like padmapriya she is realy HOT Cha-ching
