wow.. excellent saroj. i really like the way you've analysed this movie. i watched this movie twice only. atha aathiyam peru orkaanjethe. pashe enke bhayangaramaayi ishtapette oru padam thanne aanu ithe. order of importance of charcters? for me its clara, radha and jayakrishnan. feminist onum alla... its just the way i remember the charecters the most!
clara is definetly an epitomy of strenght in this movie. and i think that is one of the reasons that jayakrish is so attracted to her. he sees an extremely poweful woman in her, who knows exactly what she wants and makes her own decisions. infact, i think padmarajan purposely gave immense strenght to both female charecters in this movie.. both are very individualistic and opinionated. but defintely clara stands out in this film. and sumalatha should get credit for breathing life into clara on screen.

her charecter is basically entering the world of prostitution. but she does not rely on self pity or sympathy to make her charecter "acceptable" before the audience. i don't think she takes pride in her career, but she takes pride in making her own decisions. and instead of wallowing in self pity she just gets on with life and tries to make the best of what she has.
radha too, is a woman of strenght. she knows about clara and is still ready to marry jayakrishnan because she knows in her mind exactly waht she wants. and she's willing to take a risk.
jayakrishnan, is the platform on which both these charecters can shine! he gives an aura of strength but actually i think he's an emotionally vulnerable man who has two lives. and he seeks stability. his ego is wounded when radha turns down his advances (initially). he then gets involved with the mysterious clara.

both women that he is attracted to are strong. ironically though, it is clara, the prostitute, who teaches him about strength and character, in her he discovers the strength of a woman. the strength of her mind, her heart, and her love. it is perhaps this encounter with clara that eventually allows for his relationship with radha to develop into something meaningful.
wish i could watch this movie again!
