Not many are aware that Subhash Ghai is making KISNA in two versions -- Hindi and English. While the Hindi version will be released like a normal biggie in the domestic market, the English version is targeted at the global audience.
"The idea to make the film in two versions was mooted by my international agents," Ghai informs me. Besides internationally acclaimed writers involved with the film, KISNA also has several international actors acting in the film.
At present 50% complete, the two versions of KISNA will be different in terms of length. While the Hindi version will be of 3 hours' duration, the English version will be an abridged one -- 2 hours. Incidentally, the two versions will be released on the same date, before the end of this year.
Ghai has always dreamt of making a breakthrough in the international market and KISNA might prove to be his ticket to the West.
This musical love story with an adventurous backdrop of 1940s in India has two veteran music composers A. R. Rahman and Ismail Darbar with lyrics by Javed Akhtar. “It’s purely an Indian film with Indian music, Indian values and Indian emotions with Indian backdrop for a wider range of audience from masses to classes. This is my effort to reach everybody in the hall with a film full of entertainment with a great story. This would be my best script so far of my career. Let’s see how Subhash Ghai as a director takes on big screen.” says Subhash Ghai for himself.
A. R. Rahman has recorded a special English number for Kisna for the international market, so a special single will be released in international music market. Costing 25 crores, the movie is being photographed by national award winner and most renowned Cinematographer, Ashok Mehta with another national award winner, Samir Chanda, as Production Designer and Art Director.
