PostPosted: Mon Jul 04, 2005 6:26 am    Post subject: Paandi Pada - HAT-TRICK from RAFI-MECARTIN

The director duo, Rafi-Mecartin and Dileep believes that laughter is the best medicine through films like Punjabi House and Tenkasipattanam. Now the same team has struck hat trick with Pandipada, a rollicking family entertainer that is enjoyable till it lasts.
Pandipada works, as it does not give you time to think with its racy and hilarious way of narration. Rafi Mecartin deserves a pat on their back for putting together a laugh riot with all new comedy items and smartly written witty one-liners and dialogues that tickle the funny bone.

Bhuvanachandran (Dileep) who likes to call himself Bhuvan is a small time real estate broker in Kochi who is always on the run as all his deals run into trouble. One day he gets conned by a Tamilian who sells his 30 acres of disputed land to Bhuvan, which is in Karuvilangadu, a small remote village in Tamilnadu. Bhuvan borrows money from Ummachan (Cochin) to buy this land at cheap price in the fond hope of selling it for a huge amount.

Thus Bhuvan arrives in Tamilnadu and realizes the trouble that he is in! The 30 acres of land is a disputed property of two ruthless warring local chieftains Karuppusamy (Rajan.P.Dev) and Pandidorai (Prakash Raj) who swears to kill the person who buys this land which has water necessary for agriculture in the village.

Bhuvan meets his former partner Bhasi (Asokan) and along with him they plan ways to get possession of the land without revealing their true identity. Bhuvan enters Pandidorai’s house and soon wins over the ruthless, cold blooded man and his mother (Sukumari).

Meena (Navya Nair) Karuppusamy’s only daughter falls in love with Bhuvan which leads to further complications. When Bhuvan comes to know that Pandidorai wants to marry Meena, he plays cupid which leads to a superb climax. How Bhuvan gets back his land forms the rest of this rip roaring comedy.

Dileep is in his elements as he brings the house down with his comic one-liners along with Harisri Asokan, Salim Kumar and Cochin Haneefa. There is not even one single moment that you will stop laughing especially the scenes in which Rajan.P.Dev makes his servant (Indrans) drink to bring the truth out, the Dileep- Navya comedy banter, Haneefa’s peacock act and many others.

However, the icing on the cake is Prakash Raj as Pandidorai, a character that has equal footage as the hero. As a lovable mean villain with comic touches, he is simply outstanding in his encounters with Dileep, the romantic scenes with Navya and the spellbinding climax. Navya Nair is adequate while all the supporting cast have given their best.

The songs tuned by Suresh Peters fits the mood and the picturisation adds richness to the film. Three cheers to Rafi-Mecartin and Dileep. Have fun!

Verdict: Paisa Vasool
