While Ram Gopal Varma has finalized Amitabh Bachchan and his latest muse Mohit Alawat in the roles of Gabbar Singh and Jai for his version of Sholay, speculations were rife on who would play the character of Thakur played by Sanjeev Kumar. Sanjeev Kumar gave a brilliant performance in his underplayed (and also underrated) character of Thakur in the original.
Finally RGV has got his Thakur. He has finalized south superstar Mohanlal for the role. Mohanlal has watched Sholay twice and is all charged up to play Thakur with amputated hands in the remake. He has left the adaptation on Varma.
Varma had introduced Mohanlal in Hindi films with his underworld film Company. But post Company Mohanlal, who is not much conversant with Hindi, never got any interesting offer in Hindi cinema.

i don't think lal need varma's help to be recognised in india...... but i guess it will be a change for our Guru........

takur is not that old....
i hear amitab is playing amgithkhan's role... a thief.... and mitab's original role and dharmendra's are being casted by that new guy from "James" and Abishek Bachan....
Lal will be fine with the takur role... i think lal's role has more importance than the two heroes because of the fact that the heroes are just obeying takur's order to kill the thief(amitabbachan)...
well we cannot really say that this project will takeplace because Ram Gopal Varma always changes his mind.... he was going to do some other film with lal but that did not happen...
anyways i think this is going to be a turning point for lal...
