Finally some sensible questions Rij-e  ....I know Pranku has already solved de question ...here is de explaination in case anyone wants to know:
When sum of two 4 digit numbers is a 5 digit number then the only possible carry over is 1. So M =1.
Also then S + M gives a 2 digit sum MO where M = 1. Therefore, the only possibility is S = 9.
S + M = 9 + 1 = 10 = MO. Therefore O = 0.
Now E + O cannot be equal to N as O=0...therefore there is a carry over 1. So E + 1 + O = N. i.e E + 1 = N
Assuming there is no carry over: N + R = 10*1 + E
So E+1+R = 10 + E . Hence R = 9..not possible as S = 9 .
This means there is a carry over: So N +R +1 =10 +E. Therefore, R = 8
Now substitute for N such that N + 1 + R = 10 + E and E + 1 = N. The only possible values are: N = 6 and E = 5
Finally, we from above equation we know D + E gives a carry over. So D + E = 10 + Y
D + 5 = 10 + Y ( D cannot be following 5, 6, 8, 9) Hence D = 7 while Y = 2. |
