can?t believe this," says Meera, after she heard the news that she won the Best Actress award from the Kerala State government. The actress was in Hyderabad shooting for her new film - a remake of Parthipan Kanavu from Tamil. Excerpts of a quick chat with the actress.

What do you feel after winning this coveted award?
I can?t believe this. It?s all God's grace. What else can I say?

Did you expect an award this time?
No. I never expected this award, though everyone in the industry told me that I might get one for Padom Onnu Oru Vilapam. But when I was not even considered by the National award committee, I lost hope.

You got the award for two films. Which do you rate as best?
See both were in different genre. Shaheena are Priyamvada are very dear to me. The effort that went into doing both these characters was tremendous. I don?t want to differentiate between both the films as art-house and commercial.

Tell us something about Padom Onnu Oru Vilapam?
It was a great learning experience for me. A lot of people criticised me for playing a Muslim character. I got into the role of Shaheena with ease and her happiness and worries became mine. Moreover I had dubbed in my voice, which made the character better.

Any unforgettable moments?
While we were shooting for Padom Onnu Oru Vilapam, a minor girl studying in a nearby school who was forced to marry when she was a minor, committed suicide and I had gone to the local hospital to see her body. It influenced me a lot as my character in the film had to lead a similar life though she faced all her problems boldly.

How do you feel now?
First of all I never expected this award. To be the best actress in India is a big responsibility and I feel happy and proud. And of course, I am thankful to God.(Also View: Meera in pics)

What are your plans?
I want to donate this award money to some charitable organisation. I was able to achieve all this due to God?s grace and the blessings of my elders. I am not being modest but that?s the truth.

First it was Kerala State award and now National award. Did you feel that you would get so many awards while doing the film, Padom Onnu Oru Vilapam?
When I signed the film itself everyone told me that it had the potential to win awards. But sincerely I never expected so much. Shahina was a very different role. All credit goes to director T.V.Chandran.

Are you going to be more choosy from now on?
See. Let me first settle down before commenting on anything. Even before winning this award too, I always accepted roles that were interesting. This award has definitely made me more responsible as an actress. I want to live up to everybody?s expectations and work harder.

You have been successful in all south Indian languages. Please comment
I have done Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu films. Now I am doing a Kannada film. Language is no barrier for me, if the characters are good.

Will you be doing more off-beat films in future?
I don?t want to do films with dreams of getting awards. I believe that my films should do well at the box-office and to me, audience acceptance is more important than any award.
